Day After: What #millennials look for in an internship & first job

Aug 17 2011 Published by under Day After

We had a good chat yesterday about what millennials like and DON’T like in an internship and first job experience.  I wanted to send a shout out to:

@ebraden33 – Liz Braden from Building Tomorrow

for helping out with the moderation of yesterday’s chat.  I had a Grand Opening for HealthNet‘s new People’s Health & Dental Center.  Thank you, Liz!

From the chat, in an internship/first job experience, millennials are looking for the following:

  • A mission they can connect with and a fluid job description to help them shape their path.
  • Freedom on projects along with criticism that answers WHY things went right or wrong.
  • Worst things to do as a supervisor: Micro-manage everything, or leave us completely alone.
  • If you give us millennials a good experience, when we leave your organization.. we WILL stay engaged for years to come.

The lines are now open for topic ideas for next’s weeks chat!  Submit topics in any of these ways – our LinkedIn Group, DM myself – @Willie_Matis, or commenting below! Once we get enough topic suggestions, then we will open the poll to vote on which will be the theme of next week’s chat!
